Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Practice Accountant to join our team in Inverness. This role encompasses the full spectrum of accounting practice management, from client relationship oversight to complex financial reporting and strategic advisory services. You will lead accounting engagements, manage client portfolios, and ensure the highest standards of technical excellence and compliance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supervising accounting projects, mentoring junior staff, preparing comprehensive financial statements, and providing strategic guidance to clients on accounting matters and tax optimization. This position requires a proactive professional who can balance operational efficiency with client satisfaction while maintaining rigorous quality control and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of client accounts, ensuring timely delivery of accounting services and maintaining strong client relationships
- Prepare and review complex financial statements, management accounts, and statutory accounts in compliance with relevant accounting standards
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Conduct detailed financial analysis and provide strategic accounting advice to clients on business structure, tax planning, and financial optimization
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards (IFRS, UK GAAP), tax regulations, and professional requirements
- Manage audit and assurance engagements, including planning, fieldwork coordination, and report preparation
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality within the practice
- Contribute to business development activities and support the growth of the practice through excellent service delivery
- Maintain detailed engagement records, timesheets, and documentation in accordance with practice standards
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards, tax legislation, and professional best practices

Experience & Expertise Required:
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in accounting practice or similar professional accounting environment

- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements under IFRS and/or UK GAAP
- Knowledge of tax compliance, planning strategies, and relevant tax legislation
- Experience managing client relationships and delivering advisory services
- Proven ability to supervise and develop junior staff members
